What Are Dental Implants

Jenny, Smile Healthy® Success Story

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that provide a permanent base for fixed, replacement teeth. Dental implants are an effective long-term solution for people who suffer from missing teeth, damaged teeth or chronic dental problems.

Because they fit, feel and function like natural teeth, dental implants are quickly becoming the new standard in tooth replacement.

Feel Like Real Teeth

What makes dental implants feel completely comfortable and secure? ClearChoice doctors use a medical-grade titanium implant fixture that, over time, actually integrates with the jawbone. This union forms a strong and durable anchor for your new teeth, meaning there’s no slippage or other movement (which can happen with dentures).

Eat and Smile Comfortably

This means with dental implants you can eat more easily, you don’t have to remove them daily, and you can smile freely.

1. Implant Screw

First, a screw is implanted. This serves as a root for your new teeth, permanently attaching to your jaw and creating a long-term solution.

2. Abutment

Next, a connector supports and holds a tooth or set of teeth. While it can be removed by your dentist, it’s meant to function as a fixed solution.

3. Crown

Finally, the crown (prosthetic tooth) is added. This is the part of the tooth you can see. It’s usually made of zirconia or porcelain, both for durability and a natural look.

How the Parts Come Together

To replace a full row of teeth, as few as four implant screws are precisely placed. Abutments then securely attach a set of crowns.

Tooth Replacement Options

You can use dental implants to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or a full upper and/or lower set of teeth. If you need to restore a full arch, you may be a candidate for the All-On-Four®1 treatment. Surgeons will place as few as four implants and then attach a full arch of teeth, giving the procedure its name (all teeth, only four implants).

Just as dental implants have emerged as the preferred choice for tooth replacement, the ClearChoice all-in-one approach has become the preferred model for dental implant treatment. Our team of doctors and clinical staff work together under one roof, with a fully equipped, onsite lab, to build beautiful smiles in a way that makes the treatment process more convenient and more personalized for patients.

Full-Mouth Implants

Rather than living with the constant discomfort and hassles of dentures, many people opt for full-mouth dental implant restoration. Thanks to advances in dental implant technology, ClearChoice doctors can attach an entire row of upper or lower teeth using as few as four precisely placed implants, sometimes referred to as All-On-Four®1 or AO4®2.

Multiple Implants

Occasionally a patient is missing more than one tooth, but still has healthy gums and surrounding teeth. In this case, a multiple implant is the best solution. In the diagram above, three fixtures are implanted and the crown is attached, leaving the natural teeth around them intact.

Single-Tooth Implants

If you have an issue with a single failing or missing tooth, the doctors at ClearChoice can easily fix that with a single dental implant. Rest assured, your new tooth will look and function like your other natural teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Long-Term Solution

When properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them one of the best investments for long-term tooth replacement. Studies have reported that the long-term success rate of implants is over 95%.

Chew, Talk, and Smile with Comfort

Many patients say that dental implants look, feel and function like real teeth. You’ll be able to eat your favorite foods, talk with comfort, and smile with confidence again.

Improve Your Diet and Health

Dental implants can help improve overall health. With strong, fully functioning teeth, patients can expand their diets and eat healthier foods again, like nuts and fruits.

Prevent Bone Loss in the Jaw

Dental implants integrate with the bone, providing a stimulus that keeps the jawbone from deteriorating. This helps maintain a more youthful facial structure, boosts confidence and leads to better oral health.
